Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan (DMUM) raises funds and awareness for pediatric rehabilitation programs at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and Beaumont Children’s in Royal Oak, MI. Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan is the largest student-run non-profit organization in Michigan and I’m ecstatic to be a part of this organization! The wonderful therapies we sponsor offer children the unique opportunity to participate in activities that allow them to just be kids. The therapies include tree climbing, swimming, martial arts, dancing, bowling, creative coping, TOP Soccer (one of my favorites) and many more.
My personal favorite memory was Charity Ball (now called FTK Formal) my freshman year. This was the first event that my team really got to bond with our family. The way that our kid lit up from eating dinner to going on the dance floor was amazing! Looking around at the event you could just see pure joy in the faces of the kids and the students! I knew that this organization was very special after going to this event! Going to VictorThon later that year, I realized that I needed to get more involved in the organization. This lead me to be on the leadership (steering team) my sophomore and junior year serving on the Development and K-12 Engagement committees to support the kids! Now, I am going to be a senior, and I am the K-12 Engagement Chair! I am so excited to start new Mini-VictorThons at K-12 schools in Southeast Michigan. I can't wait for what the organization will accomplish in my fourth year!
From March 24-March 25th, 2018 I will be standing on my feet for 24 consecutive hours with over 1,000 of my fellow students and friends to support the children and families who benefit directly from the programs we raise money for! Please consider helping me to reach my goal of $1,000 for the kids!
