Tinkered Toy Box

*If you are interested in volunteering at these programs, you must first register with DMUM. If you are unsure who to register as, please see our Get Involved page.*

Tinkered Toy Box is a program that provides free switch-adapted toys to children with severe motor and/or vision disabilities in time for the winter holidays. It started as a collaboration between Michigan Medicine and Washtenaw Intermediate School District in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2019 after the founders realized the need in our community for children to learn switch skills which will translate into other useful life skills. On a Fall Tinker Day, DMUM volunteers, parents, therapists, and other members of the community engage in toy modification, learning how to engineer toys to be more accessible to children!
